My web and e-mail provider is terminating SiteManager, home replacement needed
by mikecolley from LinuxQuestions.org on (#52J11)
Hi All:
Looking for advice for my personal use and a (or several) very detailed How-To/s.
I hope I am posting in the correct forum. I know this is a big broad question but here goes.
My provider (Wes-----) is terminating their SiteManager Service where I have my personal web pages and e-mail for over 10 years. I would like to explore the possible [easy] options.
I need a solution for a replacement. Maybe I can set up my own server??? Is it worth the effort?
Does a How-To exist that tells in _RIDICULOUS_DETAIL_ how to set-up my own linux web and e-mail server beginning with taking my already registered domain name (at NetSol) to having a functioning web and e-mail server with spam protection? Help is also needed with DNS and home router configuration and MX record.
My linux skill level is over 15 years using linux in the Debian family (Knoppix-Debian-Mint/Cinnamon) but I'm openminded. I am a longtime user. Network administration is not my power area but I'm not afraid to try(I'm an EE). I'm open to using an old PC to set up my own dedicated PC sever here in my apartment and hope it would run another 10 years or so. Good security, stability and low maintenance is nice to have.
Looking for advice for my personal use and a (or several) very detailed How-To/s.
Thanks - Mike
