Report: Patriots inking Marqise Lee to 1-year deal

The New England Patriots are signing free-agent wide receiver Marqise Lee to a one-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Financial details of the deal are currently unknown.

Lee spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the team waived him Monday. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2018 campaign with a torn ACL and was limited to six games last season, catching three passes for 18 yards.

Lee was selected by the Jags in the second round of the 2014 draft following a decorated career at USC, during which he won the Biletnikoff Award in 2012 as the nation's top receiver. He then enjoyed productive campaigns in 2016 and 2017, recording a combined 119 receptions for 1,553 yards and six touchdowns in 30 games before injuries struck.

Whom Lee will catch passes from in New England is unclear after Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. 2019 fourth-rounder Jarrett Stidham and veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer are expected to duel for the starting gig, but the Pats could add a signal-caller through the draft. Cam Newton also remains a free agent.

Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, and Mohamed Sanu are currently at the top of New England's wide receiver depth chart.
