The New England Patriots created a stir on social media when they selected kicker Justin Rohrwasser out of Marshall in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft - and not because they actually drafted a kicker.

Eagle-eyed Twitter users noted a tattoo on Rohrwasser's arm appears to be a symbol used by the "Three Percenters," a far-right militia movement that advocates for gun ownership rights and resisting the U.S. federal government's reach.

Members of the group were involved in the violent white supremacist Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017.

Asked about the tattoo after being drafted, Rohrwasser expressed regret and said he plans to cover it.

"I got that tattoo when I was a teenager," Rohrwasser said, according to NESN's Doug Kyed. "I had a lot of family in the military, and I thought it stood for a military support symbol at the time. Obviously, it evolved into something that I did not want to represent. When I look back on it, I should have done way more research before I put any mark or symbol like that on my body. It's not something I want to represent."
