The Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year deal with safety Tashaun Gipson, who was released by the Houston Texans following the NFL draft, a source told Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.

The Texans cut Gipson just one season into a three-year, $22.5-million contract. In 14 games with Houston, the 29-year-old recorded 51 tackles and three interceptions.

A veteran of eight NFL campaigns, Gipson has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars. He's posted 23 interceptions and 47 pass breakups during his career.

The Bears had a hole at safety next to Eddie Jackson after losing Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency. Former fourth-round pick Deon Bush was considered a candidate to replace Clinton-Dix in the starting lineup.
