Changing home directory for applications using export HOME variable?

Is there a way to change the home directory for application when launching it using export HOME variable? I tried this command, but it didn't worked:
Code:export HOME=/home/xxxx/kodi1 kodiI didn't get any messages in the command line, but it didn't launch kodi either.
