sudo root passwd lost
by Systrack001 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#53665)
Hello everyone.
I was wondering if someone could help me.
Running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon for about 2 years now.
The PC (64 Bits) is relatively new with more than enough grunt
Machine is solely dedicated to Mint 18.
All this time, I downloaded software from the menu
or access synaptic, downloaded and install updates, and so forth. I was always requested to enter my password (authenticate)
Also while logging on using the terminal I had to enter sudo and then command line.
On the terminal if I enter: sudo passwd (to change UNIX passwd)
[sudo] passwd for systrack001:
wrong passwd
wrong passwd
wrong passwd
Then out of the blue no passwords works. In other words I am stuck!
I have re-booted the system several times holding the shift key in order to access GRUB. Impossible to access GRUB and Edit the command line for changing password access. The system loads immediately Linux Mint18
Has anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?
Would this lead to the eventuality that I have to re-install Mint18.3 with the use of my DVD?
Surely there must be a way of using Linux Mint without having to enter
the same password for any access?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
