Gurley doesn't know why Rams haven't paid him following release

Todd Gurley is still waiting for the Los Angeles Rams to send him the millions he's owed following his release in the middle of March.

"I don't know what their reason is," the former All-Pro running back said on the "UNINTERRUPTED" podcast. "And then the worst thing about it is, they know they have to pay me, too. ... Probably just using the COVID thing as an excuse. Or, shit, they probably ain't go no money to be paying nobody. They got that stadium being built right now. All I know is, come June 1, I better have my money."

Gurley was initially slated to receive $7.55 million from Los Angeles. However, offset language reduced the figured in his Rams contract once he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He's still set to pocket roughly $5 million from his former team.

Unlike former teammate Clay Matthews, who's chasing about $2 million in unpaid guarantees from the Rams, Gurley hasn't filed a grievance. He said doing so would only further delay his check.

"Right now the grievances are on hold," he said. "The team has to set that meeting up. So they kind of got that upper hand right now because they know all this COVID stuff is going on. So like, it wouldn't make sense for me to file a grievance because this spring case won't get heard until next spring, and then once you file a grievance that just puts everything on hold."

"I shouldn't have to negotiate when I should get my money when it's already written," the veteran added.

Gurley starred for the Rams for five seasons, leading the NFL from 2017 to 2018 with 3,924 scrimmage yards and 40 touchdowns. He was cut following a production dip in 2019, when the 25-year-old rushed for 857 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

His new team isn't scheduled to face the Rams in the 2020 regular season.
