Edit super full moon picture with gimp
by neidorff from LinuxQuestions.org on (#53VB3)
Hi,
I am not an artist, so please assume nothing about artistic skill. Also, I am not a gimp user, so please walk me through the steps.
Famous last words: "How hard could it possibly be?"
When we recently had a super full moon, I put my camera on a tripod and took some nearly really nice pictures of the moon. I'm guessing that the pictures are underexposed because where I would think the surface of the moon should be nearly white, it is a light orange and the areas that should be darker are brownish. (please don't criticize my explanation of the colors, I'm not an artist. The editing software I have is gimp (on a linux system...but that shouldn't matter). I would like to lighten the moon and leave the background unchanged so that the moon shows the surface "properly". Please tell me specific steps that I would have to go through to adjust the colors on the lunar image without changing the black of the night sky. OR, if you know of a site with a gimp tutorial that will show me how to do this, that would be great.
Thank you for any and all advice.
(stay safe!!!) Mark
