Is it a security problem if I can can't remove terminal history?

I can and did remove an accidental piece of sensitive info from my history but I couldn't do it via CLI. I had to open bash_history in a text editor.

Before that I tried
Code:history -d <line number>and
Code:history -cand they didn't work.
