Snap installation

I am trying to install MakeMKV as a Snap. I download snapd and then snap find makemkv. I get the following error:
error: cannot list snaps: cannot communicate with server: Get http://localhost/v2/find?q=makemkv&scope=wide: dial unix /run/snapd.socket: connect: no such file or directory
I then google that error and I read that I should type "service snapd start" but then I get this error:
snapd: unrecognized service
So I google that error and read that I just find myself go around and around without gaining any ground.
