Power management not working properly on Dell E6440

I have Debian Buster XFCE installed on a Dell Latitude E6440. When the system switches to power saving mode it is not possible to wake it up again via key input or pressing the power button. How can I make sure that the power saving mode works properly on my laptop? Thanks for any help.
