gpsd - access from Firefox - build Firefox - how?

I am trying to get a USB GPS device working with a web browser.
So that I can use things such as Google Maps, Open Street Maps, Ordnance Survey etc. in a web browser.

So far I have gpsd working fine and native Linux programmes such as FoxtrotGPS will show my correct location on a map.

However I am unable to access GPS from within Firefox or Chromium (Linux Mint 17).

I have been told that gpsd access is deliberately disabled in the standard build, and that I will have to build Firefox using the option --enable-gpsd.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250922

Link above suggests that this is deliberate and a contractual issue.

So is there a simple guide to how to rebuild a Linux program, and if possible specifically Firefox, to include an extra option/flag?

Edit: just found

Hopefully this may (eventually) get me to being able to build.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=zp4qBl4Uzqw:vMpd9AuCEjo:F7zBnMy latest?i=zp4qBl4Uzqw:vMpd9AuCEjo:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=zp4qBl4Uzqw:vMpd9AuCEjo:gIN9vFwzp4qBl4Uzqw
