Trouble with Windows 10 installation location - "couldn't create new partition or locate existing one"
by darthgonzo from LinuxQuestions.org on (#540DF)
Hey guys, having an issue that I'm sure has a quick fix I'm just not seeing.
Running Linux Mint 19.3 currently, and I'm attempting to switch over to Windows 10 using a bootable DVD. I inserted the disk into the drive and pressed F11 to open the boot menu. At the "Please select boot device" menu, I'm presented with the options:
AHCI P1: PNY CS900 120 GB SSD
AHCI P5: ST2000DM001-9YN164
IBA GE Slot 00C8 v1550
Realtek PXE B03 D00
AHCI P2: ATAPI iHDs118
The last option is the one that runs the Windows bootable. During the installation/setup process, it asks me where I want Windows to be installed so I choose Drive 1 Partition 1 (which is already in NTFS) and I'm given the error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files." And folks, I am stumped. Wondering if possibly I need to unallocate the partition in GParted? Another alternative I considered is just uninstalling Linux entirely and fresh installing Windows. I'm unsure of what to do next, anyone have ideas? And please talk to me like I'm a five year old because I know little-to-nothing about Linux and most of the syntax goes over my head.
