A heat warning issued by the City of Hamilton earlier this week has ended - largely due to the heavy rain moving in and bringing a cold front with it.

A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada calls for possible heavy rain Thursday, May 28.

The national weather agency says an area of rain moving north from Ohio this morning will cross Lake Erie and western sections of Lake Ontario through the middle of the day. This rain is associated with the remnants of tropical depression Bertha and is weakening as it moves north.

There is the potential for 20 to 40 millimetres of rain to fall across some areas of the city by tonight.

Today will be cloudy with periods of rain. The high will be 24 C but with the humidex it will feel like 29 C. Tonight, there is a 40 per cent chance of showers early this evening and overnight. The low will be 17 C.

A quick look ahead to the weekend weather suggests the rain will go away after Friday.

Friday looks cloudy with showers beginning early in the afternoon. There is a risk of a thunderstorms and more showers overnight. The high is expected to be 24 C.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to have mainly sunny skies and a high of 16 C both days.
