Strange problem with Intuos graphics tablet

I have been using an Intuos4 PTK-640 graphics tablet for a number of years now on my Slackware desktop computer. I am using Slackware current (1/2/2020 download). Until recently (within the last week), I had no problems with the tablet. Today I noticed that the pen was not working properly, but in a strange way.

When I track the pen over/on the tablet the cursor arrow follows the pen on the screen. However, if I press the pen to the tablet it does not respond to the press. Similarly, if I go into a paint program (such as KoulorPaint) I don't get any brush or pencil strokes recorded.

The mouse that comes with the tablet is still responding without problem. I am using the default settings for the tablet.

I tried using the tablet in a VM running Windows 10 and the pen worked without a problem.

I am using the built-in wacom driver and the wacom KDE package, wacomtablet-2.1, from SlackBuilds. When I noticed the problem I restarted the computer without success. I've also reinstalled wacom drivers from kernel-modules-5.4.7, and the libwacom-1.2 and xf86-input-wacom-0.39.0 packages. These did not change the behavior.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=N21GKUyZAT0:WXeM8Mnhf3E:F7zBnMy latest?i=N21GKUyZAT0:WXeM8Mnhf3E:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=N21GKUyZAT0:WXeM8Mnhf3E:gIN9vFwN21GKUyZAT0
