Hard Drive Device Disappeared
by thirteen_engines from LinuxQuestions.org on (#549MV)
Hi all. I was doing a drive backup from my desktop to a drive enclosure via usb ... slow but generally reliable. I used rsync for the data transfer. Thought it was finished because there was no drive light activity on the enclosure and no output from rsync on the desktop, where the transfer was initiated. Now I find that not only was the data backup not completed but the drive that was being copied is not accessible. I umounted it and cannot re-mount ... the error message indicates that /dev/scb1 does not exist!
I have to admit that I'm freaking a bit a the moment since all of our digital photos where on that drive so I'm not probably thinking clearly.I've tried a fsck on the drive but, of course, the device doesn't exist so ...
I don't know how to proceed at this point so any advice on recovering the drive would be *most* appreciated.
Cheers
Keith
