You wanted to pack the drive-in but find it is still closed? And, so is the Linc. Don't let those things stop you from some weekend joy. Here are five things everyone in the Hamilton area should know about this weekend.

Friday's warm front with a daytime high of 30 C, feeling like 37 with the humidex, is expected to move out of the area overnight. Environment Canada is calling for a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms starting about 4 p.m. Friday evening. Saturday and Sunday are looking like sunny skies and daytime highs from 20 to 23 degrees. Don't forget to slap on some sunscreen, the UV index will be in the very high range all weekend.

Mountain traffic

If you're driving on Hamilton Mountain this weekend, be aware that the Lincoln Alexander Parkway will be closed for maintenance this weekend and next. Starting Friday, the eastbound Linc from Golf Links Road to the Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway will be closed until late Sunday night. The recommended detour is Stone Church Road. Do yourself a favour and plan your trip accordingly. The westbound lanes are expected to close June 12-14.

Smell the flowers

Royal Botanical Gardens outdoor garden areas are now open to the public. These areas include Hendrie Park, David Braley and Nancy Gordon Rock Garden, Laking Garden and the Arboretum. RBG Centre and the Rock Garden Visitor Centre will be open only to provide access to garden areas. Building amenities and indoor areas such as the Mediterranean Garden remain closed. Regular 2020 admission rates apply, no cash accepted. Garden hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last admission to each outdoor garden area will be 4 p.m. rbg.ca
