Verizon FIOS reports multiple URLs
by piobair from LinuxQuestions.org on (#54E8N)
I am trying to connect my workstation to a self-mobile computer (kilroy) with SSH. I could ping the workstation from kilroy, but could not ping kilroy from the workstation.
I noticed that when the workstation was trying to ping kilroy, the URL that it was addressing was totally unrecognizable.
I pulled up the router in Firefox, and looked at the attached devices. One of them is kilroy 192.168.1.171 . There are three others whose names (new-host-4 etc) that are meaningless. All inactive.
So, I got a Firefox Internet connection with Kilroy, and the router said that 192.167.1.171 was now active. I could ping kilroy successfully. (about 4 ms per ping).
Reboot, do it again. The router now says that 192.168.1.171 is inactive, but 192.168.1.189 (new-host-4) is now active. I can ping new-host-4 successfully, but not kilroy.
Reboot, do it again The router now says that kilroy and new-host-4 are inactive, but new-host-9 (192.168.1.184) is now active.
How do I get a stable URL for kilroy?
Running Debian Stable OS
