Volume on my HP laptop, with Puppy Linux as OS, isn't working

So my fiance gave me a HP laptop with Puppy Linux on it as the operating system. I have my volume turned all the way on on both the laptop and YouTube website, but when I go to play music no sound comes out. I have never used Puppy Linux before so I'm out my territory. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
