Virtualbox 6.1.10 Extension Pack can be installed in KDE, but not in Fluxbox

Hi everyone,

I just want to share this, so that it might save you a couple of hours of trial and error, when you are upgrading Virtualbox (All distributions binary from Oracle with installer) on Slackware64-14.2.
First of all, running Fluxbox I upgraded Virtualbox to version 6.1.10, without no problems. However, when I tried to upgrade the Extension Pack, I ran into issues:
  • Running Fluxbox the upgrade of the corresponding Extension Pack from Oracle for Virtualbox 6.1.10 ended with an error message and was never completed: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (with a very generic hex code thrown for many problems by Virtualbox, thus difficult to track down). After a couple of hours I gave up.
  • Next time running KDE, the upgrade of the Extension Pack was as smooth as always.
So far, so good, problem solved for me, but admittedly not fully understood (but frankly, I don't care much). Maybe someone else could shed some light on this and explain the different behaviour depending on the desktop environment. But hopefully this little heads-up is already useful for (some of) you.

Best regards,
