Is slackware too old to install?

Hi team,
I use ubuntu and wanted to move to slackware as this was the very first linux distro I tested back in 2002.
However, I noticed (Per slackware.com) last release is dated 2016-07-01 v14.2
I am concerned about security and compatibility.
What do you think, should I install?
