microphone permissions and access broke for Chrome on Slackware current

i was using GoToMeeting successfully for 24h with Chrome on Slackware current ('current' is one year old here) - when suddenly my microphone (using a Jabra USB headset) started to be muted and became inaccessable through the GoToMeeting menues ('microphone access required'). i encounter the problem described here on a Dell XPS 9370 laptop.

needless to say that the headset incl speaker & microphone works perfectly through CLI using rec and play. video works fine too.

moreover, Google Hangout worked perfectly well for months and still works now too !

audio/sound stuff on linux became quite complex to follow over the years, well above my level of expertise. how can this be fixed easily ? i did not yet upgrade Chrome or even Slackware current.

any input is greatly appreciated !latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=t_wVlHuxBOs:hOBiWfh9quc:F7zBnMy latest?i=t_wVlHuxBOs:hOBiWfh9quc:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=t_wVlHuxBOs:hOBiWfh9quc:gIN9vFwt_wVlHuxBOs
