30 second delay starting X session on boot

Like the title says, and I'm stuck.

Ubuntu 16 in a VirtualBox VM.

A couple of months ago I upgraded from VB5 to VB6. This was the only VM to have issues I couldn't resolve.

It's been a few months. I did a lot of trouble shooting from a lot of articles. TBPH I don't remember what all I did. It's been a while since I messed with it. But I know for a fact that I didn't set any delays.

When I did the upgrade at first this VM would not even start x at all, no matter what I did. Some of it was driver issues. I got that fixed. But when x still would not start I did a bunch of tinkering following articles. Now it boots to tty1 instead of x. At that point I can either log into the tty and startx or I can just wait 30 seconds and x will start on it's own. IDK if it makes a dif but if I do sign into the tty and startx I still have to log into the x session; even though I am using the same account for both. Note: I am set up in single user "God mode" where I can do anything I want as long as I verify with my password.

At this point it's more of an annoyance than anything else. But for the life of me I cannot figure out why it's not booting straight to x like it was before the upgrade / problems and why x will start on its own after a 30 second delay.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=Pt27LVPS8f4:AfJO9vfoUzA:F7zBnMy latest?i=Pt27LVPS8f4:AfJO9vfoUzA:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=Pt27LVPS8f4:AfJO9vfoUzA:gIN9vFwPt27LVPS8f4
