Black screen after installing KDE desktop environment in Ubuntu 20.04

After working for some time in GNOME I was thinking about switching to KDE. I upgraded a laptop without much issues, so I went for the desktop as well.
As recommended (and tried before on the laptop) I issued the following command:
Code:herman@HI-desktop:~$ sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop.. and the installation went fine. After a reboot I was greeted with a nearly black screen :( I did manage to login to the KDE DE and find the screen settings (see attached screenshot).
My system is a Ryzen 7 system with an GTX 1050Ti video card. I have the feeling that this is a compatability issue with the video card but I am just guessing.
Could anyone please tell me what is going on?
