Best answer: Yes. Kaspersky offers a free version of its Security Cloud software, which includes a virus scanner. It, unfortunately, no longer offers it's older free antivirus solution and has moved it all to the Security Cloud platform.

Join the cloud

It seems like nearly every service is moving to the cloud. The question is, does the extra connectivity result in a better product? For most people, the minimal amount of data a connected service like this uses won't even be noticeable but not everyone wants to remember yet another password, though you should be using a password manager anyway.

Kaspersky Security Cloud - Free provides great antivirus protection with up-to-the-minute definitions, meaning it can detect almost all virus, malware, trojan, and even ransomware before it can become a problem on your PC.

Of course, since it's free, you don't get the full package, but you do get full and quick scanning with the ability to save time on future scans by only scanning new files. You also get an additional layer of security with in-browser protection with an extension that can stop you from stumbling onto a bad site.

If you want to upgrade to the Personal package, you add on a handful of additional features including VPN data, a password manager, and a secure browser that can be used for things like banking. You also get some improved features like better privacy from trackers, an account checker, a home Wi-Fi scanner, and a PC optimization software.

Don't want to join the cloud?

There was previously a version of free antivirus available from Kasperky that had no cloud integration, but it's no longer available for download. If you're still rocking the old version of Kaspersky's antivirus software, you will keep getting definition updates but you're no longer able to redownload it. If you want to use Kaspersky for free, you have to join the cloud service.

Still, if you don't want to join the cloud, there are still options available from other companies that keep things more traditional. Windows PCs also have access to Windows (Microsoft) Defender which is good enough for many people.
