FreeDB is gone. Now GNUdb is not accepting connections from cdda2wav

My CD ripping script was happily humming along until FreeDB shutdown some time back. Fortunately, the GNU folks assumed that role and adding command line options to point to the GNU version (and port) worked just fine... up until the past few days. Now I see messages like:
Code:cdda2wav: Connection refused. Cddb connect failed.when I enable verbose logging in my script. What cdda2wav produces now with no connection to the database is an ".inf" file that is missing all the information it used contain regarding performer, track title, etc. (My script uses that to create tags files for each track for inclusion in the Ogg Vorbis or FLAC files it creates from the WAVs.)

(I have a workaround that I would normally use only for classical CDs and to have to use that with folk/pop/rock CDs is a major pain given that they greatly outnumber classical discs.)

Qs:
  • Anyone know what's happened to cdda2wav's ability to connect to gnudb?
  • Or why gnudb.gnudb.org is refusing connections from cdda2wav?
The gnudb site is working for manual queries. If you know the CDDB DISCID you can get an output that looks like one of the files that cdda2wav would normally be produced along with the ".inf" and ".wav" files. So the site's not "down" just choosy as to what connections it's allowing.

Any hints/leads/tips greatly appreciated.
