a jillion stamps for a dime

In the '50s and '60s an ad in comic books offered a jillion stamps for a dime. I bit. Weeks later a jillion stamps arrived, arranged willy-nilly, saran-wrapped to a square of thin cardboard. They weren't good as postage, of course. Many were from countries that didn't exist anymore. Does anyone recognize this? Know the company?
