[SOLVED] kdenlive, ffmpeg-4.3, and x264
by montagdude from LinuxQuestions.org on (#55H37)
This is more a heads-up than anything. I am running -current with ktown. I recompiled Pat's ffmpeg to enable libx264 (from SBo), among other things. In the past, this allowed me to render kdenlive projects in mp4 format. However, ffmpeg was updated to version 4.3 somewhat recently in -current, so I again rebuilt it with libx264 enabled, but now kdenlive doesn't recognize that it has the x264 encoder. Switching back to ffmpeg-4.2.2 fixed the problem. I'm assuming this is because ffmpeg-4.3 is too new for the version of kdenlive in ktown, but I could be wrong. It's also possible that ffmpeg is actually not compiling in libx264 correctly even though it says it is, but I *think* I used this version of ffmpeg to encode videos with x264 outside of kdenlive. Again, could be wrong.
I just thought I would mention this in case someone else runs into the same problem, or in case AlienBob or someone else feels like looking into it.
