Oakville man, 32, accused of assaulting Halton police officer and spitting in his face
An Oakville man is facing several criminal charges after a confrontation at an Oakville plaza with a Halton Regional Police officer.
The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday at the plaza at 2325 Trafalgar Road when Halton police responded to a report of an intoxicated male who was yelling and swearing at people passing by," according to Staff-Sgt Eric Schwab.
The man was reportedly drinking an open can of beer and was sticking his head into people's vehicles," Schwab said.
Officers located the man in the area of Iroquois Shore and Trafalgar Road in Oakville.
The man proceeded to assault a police officer, police allege, and was subsequently arrested.
Once in custody, police allege, the man spat directly into the face of an officer, and continued attempts to fight," Schwab said.
The 32-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with intent to resist arrest, causing a disturbance, failing to comply with probation and public intoxication.
He is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
