Grace Villa under outbreak protocol after worker tests positive for COVID-19

Grace Villa is following outbreak protocol after one of its workers tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.

Hamilton hasn't had a long-term care home under outbreak status in more than 30 days.

The Lockton Crescent home detected the positive case after a recent round of mass testing.

Hamilton public health said it is aware the home is following outbreak protocol, but would not confirm whether an outbreak will officially be declared.

The status of this situation is still under investigation and further testing is being done," the city's associate medical officer of health Bart Harvey said in emailed statement Sunday.

While we are supportive of the home's current actions, Hamilton public health will wait for that process to be completed before any further updates are provided."

Harvey said Grace Villa decided to follow outbreak protocol and alert the media out of an abundance of caution."

As of Friday, Hamilton had 861 total cases of novel coronavirus. More than 92 per cent of cases - 790 - have been resolved.
