Exasperated !!! grub-customizer does not save customization

On a Dell E6500 with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD Drive ... I really don't care for the logo of the MX Linux boot menu when the system is powering up. So in the past I had always replaced that dark screen with something lighter, friendlier, and more techie looking.

Making adjustments in the grub-boot configuration via MX Tools --> MX Tweak --> Save Settings works without a problem, or so it appears anyway since my selected kernel configuration always boots up.

But changing the background via grub-customizer does absolutely nothing. In the right tab it even shows a preview of the selected, saved image ... and it also shows up in one of the other settings where just the image file name is displayed, but each time when I reboot all of the old ... PREVIOUSLY REMOVED ... kernels still show up as well, along with one of the old screens. There's a JPG as well as PNG version of my image, both show up in the preview, but neither shows up during boot. I've been tinkering with this for a couple of hours now and it's driving me nuts.

Hah, I even went as far as to totally rename (as root) the user/share/backrounds of MX Linux to prevent the boot process from even being able to use those images. So now when I boot up (regardless if I'm restarting or powering up from scratch) there's just a "self-generated" (???) blue screen with a grub text menu which also includes the options that I disabled (removed selections) in the grub-customizer.

The grub.cfg file clearly has the DISABLE_RECOVERY uncommented. Yet they still show up.
The grub.cfg file clearly displays both images under Background & Picture. Yet they do not work.

This is obviously nothing critical since the system works and boots up just fine. But it's really iriitating to see the *SAVED* selections before exiting grub-customizer simply not work as soon as the system is rebooted.
Any thoughts on that? Thanks ...
