New install, exiting X loses display, CL still active
by ThreadFerret from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5653D)
New build/install, Slackware current.
Ryzen/NVIDIA RTX 2070
Few years since using Linux.
StartX works but exit or ctrl-alt-bkspace in WM both lead to display being lost. Command line still active without display, startX will bring X back up successfully.
Things that might be relevant: I had to fix a boot text glitch with nomodeset in elilo.conf and X -configure tells me there is a mismatch between displays and detected devices. Latest official NVIDIA drivers installed.
What could be the cause of this?
