i2c-hid syna8004 touchpad not detected

touchpad not working. i've been on it off and on, recently upgraded to 5.4.52.
the touchpad works perfectly in systemrescue 6.1.5.

in systemrescue:
DRIVER=i2c_hid
MODALIAS=acpi:SYNA8004:PNP0C50:
in slackware:

the driver is missing in slackware, is this a kernel issue?
