How to install Java on elementary os

Been a while since I've been here. I would like to ask how do I install the latest version of java on my dell laptop running EOS. I'm confused with various ways of doing it that i've found online. Not sure If I know how to use synaptic package manager well enough, and when I search for java with it I don't think I see what I need (there are so many in the search list, but nothing that resembles the JDK that I want to program with).

Can anyone help me out there? Is the synaptic package manager the only way to do this, or can I download directly from oracle's website? And which version of java should I be using if the latest version hasn't had all of its bugs worked out yet?
