Video tearing problem

I am using Slackware 14.2 (with the latest updates installed), and I also have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 Video card (with proprietary drivers installed), and I have noticed what can most accurately be described as "video tearing" whenever I play videos, and it doesn't matter what video player I use, I still get that "tearing" effect. I also had the same issue a number of years ago (when I first started using Slackware), and I seem to remember someone suggesting that it was related to a video buffering issue somehow. Unfortunately I don't remember any of the details about it. Any practical assistance will be greatly appreciated.
