How do I fix screen tearing

I'm using the latest version of LXLE linux and have a video tearing issue. I was able to find this post but when I try adding the fix to the "xorg.conf.d" directory I keep getting permission denied even though I have full rw capability. Tried saving the fix to a file, then adding it but got the same result. How do I add this fix to a directory/
