Sorting a folder by file type in GNOME under Ubuntu 20.04

Yes, I looked in "Similar threads" before posting.
I prefer to see the list, not in icon per item format.
When trying to sort by File Type, the list comes up with Documents (LibreOffice write) and PDF documents - both in the "Documents" Type category.
Is there a way to chnage this? Yes, they are both "Documents" but not of the same type.
Using PCManFM is splitting the list between those two.
2nd question - when the list has in it also sub-folders, in the SIZE column it shows how many items are in that sub-folder, but not the actual size of MB / GB .
Why? can that be changed?
Thanks
Alex
