Report: 49ers fear Hurd tore ACL in practice
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jalen Hurd will undergo an MRI after suffering an apparent major knee injury in practice Sunday, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
The 49ers fear Hurd's test will reveal a torn ACL, forcing him to miss the entire 2020 campaign.
The 2019 third-round pick went down on the side of the field during individual drills, but the injury didn't initially look severe.
The second-year wideout's injury is yet another offseason blow to San Francisco's receiving corps. Projected top target Deebo Samuel will likely miss the start of the regular season with a foot injury, star pass-catcher Emmanuel Sanders departed in free agency, and veteran Travis Benjamin opted out of the 2020 campaign.
Hurd expected to see his role increase this year after failing to make his NFL debut in 2019. His rookie season ended early after suffering a back injury in September.
Kendrick Bourne, Dante Pettis, and first-round rookie Brandon Aiyuk currently sit atop the Niners' depth chart as padded training camp practices begin league-wide. The team also recently signed J.J. Nelson and Tavon Austin.
