qtconfig requires a full restart to correctly display preview of custom theme

I am ricing my system to achieve consistent looks for all GUI apps and for this I'm setting Qt4 to use GTK themes.
This is the default look of qtconfig:

After installing a custom GTK theme (Nordic) and setting it up (either manually via lxappearance or by deploying GTK related config files), I start qtconfig again and set GUI style to GTK+. This is how it looks after:

The first impression is that something is wrong: the appearance of the preview window is not consistent.
But if I fully restart qtconfig (saving the GUI style change of course), I get this:
https://postimg.cc/K4xP8tFS
I can understand why qtconfig won't change its own appearance immediately and why that requires a restart. But I don't get why won't it show the preview window correctly, thus misleading me into thinking that my attempt to change the theme was incorrect or incomplete.
Is there something I can do (like installing some additional Qt related library) to achieve the consistent look of preview window in screenshot 2, just like it looks on screenshot 3?
