SLES 11 SP2 only boots from cd
by jweber from LinuxQuestions.org on (#573RP)
Hello peeps.
Coming to you live from the great state of Iowa.
30+ years in IT, but this one really has me stumped.
I have a server that has been running along just fine. I am not exactly sure what happened, but in the derecho storm last Monday, we lost power.
Once power was restored, all my VMs came back online (ESXi 6.7 host on Dell hardware) except my one SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with OES 11 installed. It is running a Novell program: iFolder3.9.
Like I said, everything has been great up to that day.
Now it refuses to boot from the hard drive (in my case /dev/sda2 is boot disk and /dev/sda1 is swap)
It boots and runs fine when booting from cd, choosing Installation, Repair Installed System, Expert Tools, Boot Installed System.
System comes up and runs smoothly.
So, I restart and it comes up with a few errors
udev[161]: error disabling OOM: No such file or directory
mount: error while loading shared libraries: libuuid.so.1: cannott open shared ofject file: No such file or directory
blogd: can not open /proc/cmdline
blogd: can not open pty/tty pair: no such file or directory
Waiting for device /dev/disk/by-uuid/532e8ebb-c1f1-4387-8841-971b9e19af7b to appear:......could not find /dev/disk/by-uuid/532e8ebb-c1f1-4387-8841-971b9e19af7
Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-uuid/532e8ebb-c1f1-4387-8841-971b9e19af7
I have searched and tried just about everything I have found to fix it.
I found somewhere that the system didn't like disk by label, rather preferred disk by uuid so I changed that.
Still no boot except from cd.
Anyone??
Thank you in advance.
