KDE freezes after waking from sleep

Hello,
I am having a problem with Slackware64 14.2 where suspending the computer in KDE and powering back on results in a completely frozen computer. After pressing the power button while suspended, the computer displays the login screen but is completely unresponsive. At this point the only option I have is to hold on the power button for 10 seconds to reboot, as no matter how long I wait the login screen remains frozen. Activity lights on my laptop seem to indicate that nothing is happening (at least with the disk) during this time. I have made sure that everything is up to date, and have also tried to reinstall KDE. You'll have to forgive me as I'm not sure what to do in order to debug this issue further. My laptop is an HP Elitebook 8440p. Any advice is appreciated.
