Give a user access to /var/www/html Apache 2

Sorry if this a repeat of several other posts. The other posts I have found on this site and several others and I have had no luck getting it to work. I am running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server running Apache 2 in VM Ware. I will be using this a development server, before uploading to my actual web host. I want to give my user name access to /var/www/html folder. I have tried to create a new virtual host and even trying to give myself rights to the folder and nothing works. Anyone have any ideas for this?
