Lions cancel Tuesday practice in protest of Wisconsin police shooting

The Detroit Lions canceled their Tuesday practice in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

Players and members of the coaching staff addressed the media collectively outside the team's facility. The Lions displayed the words "The world can't go on" and "We won't be silent" painted across whiteboards.

"I've never been more proud to be a part of this team," quarterback Matthew Stafford said, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive. "An incredible group of guys in this locker room led by a coach who's unwavering in his ability to give us space to talk."

Lions defensive lineman Danny Shelton wore a shirt with the message "We Demand Justice" painted across the chest.

A police officer shot Blake, an unarmed Black man, in the back multiple times last Sunday. The shooting occurred in Kenosha, roughly 150 miles from Green Bay, and it prompted protests in Wisconsin.
