Employee at Ancaster Fortinos tests positive for COVID-19

An employee at the Fortinos grocery store in Ancaster has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the store's parent company.

Loblaws was notified on Tuesday that a staff member at the location at 54 Wilson St. W. in Ancaster had tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19," according to a listing on their COVID-19 case database.

The last day the employee worked was Aug. 19.

In an email to The Spectator, a Loblaw spokesperson said the staff member recently tested positive" for the virus and that the company had reached out to Hamilton Public Health.

They said the store has also taken a number of steps to minimize risk including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the store."

It's unclear how many staff members were affected by the recent prognosis or if any were recommended to self-isolate as a precaution.

The store was closed overnight Tuesday for additional cleaning" and has since reopened, the spokesperson added.

The recent case comes just a little over a week after an employee tested positive for the virus at the Metro grocery store on Fennell Avenue East in Hamilton.

As of Wednesday, there were 63 active cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton. Nearly 975 people have tested positive for the virus, 866 cases are considered resolved and 45 people have died.
