Lake Charles in Louisiana voted only two weeks ago to keep a slaver monument installed on courthouse property. Hurricane Laura had other plans, toppling it like a domino.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury voted 10-4 Aug. 13 to let the South's Defenders Monument remain on the grounds of a courthouse in Lake Charles. ... Twitter posts Thursday morning showed images of the monument with the general in pieces on the ground.

Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish has been filled with controversy and tension after our parish government by a vote of 10-5 refused to take down the Confederate South's Defenders Monument.
