Flores intent on Dolphins taking action against injustice: 'I lived this'

Brian Flores, one of just three Black head coaches in the NFL, says he's aware of the social injustice prevalent in the United States.

The Miami Dolphins boss insisted his team would be leaders against the issues raised by the Jacob Blake shooting and making a difference would be at the forefront of their thoughts throughout the season.

"We all know and understand things aren't where they need to be (in society) right now," Flores told reporters, according to Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I lived this. I've had guns pointed at me by police officers. This is not something I take lightly."

A number of other clubs canceled practices in recent days amid protests across multiple major sports leagues. Others altered schedules in favor of team discussions.

Although the Dolphins weren't one of the teams to postpone team sessions, a frustrated Flores said he will hold post-practice meetings for his squad to discuss strategies to combat inequality in their communities.

"We talked about this the other day and I addressed the Jacob Blake situation with you guys and talked about how upsetting and how frustrating it is when these situations come up time after time after time after time," Flores said, per Safid Deen of the Orlando Sentinel.

"We need change," he added.
