Report: Texans, Cunningham agree to 4-year, $58M extension

The Houston Texans and linebacker Zach Cunningham agreed to a four-year, $58-million contract extension, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cunningham's reported $14.5-million yearly wage would make him the NFL's third-highest paid off-ball linebacker in terms of average annual value, behind Bobby Wagner and C.J. Mosley.

Houston selected Cunningham in the second round of the 2017 draft. He was entering the final season of his rookie contract.

The 25-year-old started all 16 games last year, playing in 87.5% of his team's defensive snaps. He recorded 142 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries in 2019.

Cunningham is once again expected to take on a significant role in the middle of Houston's defense, starting next to Benardrick McKinney.
