Confirmed COVID case at Haldimand-Norfolk REACH child care centre at McKinnon Park Secondary School in Caledonia
A child attending the Haldimand-Norfolk REACH Child Care Centre located at McKinnon Park Secondary School in Caledonia has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit declaring an outbreak.
This child is not currently attending the centre. Close contacts have been identified and will be self-isolating. Additional test results are pending," said Matt Terry, director of corporate communications for the health unit, in an email Aug. 30.
He added that his organization is with Haldimand-Norfolk REACH to implement a public health management plan.
Members of the affected class will not be attending the centre. Children in other classes may continue to attend the centre."
Kimberly Newhouse, manager of communications and community relations for the Grand Erie District School Board, said the outbreak at the child care centre does not impact the return of McKinnon Park students or staff."
As of Aug. 30, the health unit was reporting 475 lab-confirmed, positive cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic; 21 of those cases being currently active.
