McMaster University says a graduate student on campus has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement on its website on Monday, the university said all spaces where the student spent time had already been thoroughly cleaned" and reopened.

McMaster does not say when or where the student was on campus or when they tested positive.

Any contact tracing is managed by Hamilton public health and they will contact directly anyone who would be part of the tracing for this case," the statement says.

The university says the COVID-positive student contacted the university quickly" after testing positive and was very helpful in sharing information."

Hamilton public health does not typically alert the public when COVID cases pop up in workplaces. The health unit says it would consider broader notification" to the public if an outbreak occurred in a workplace or business and public health wasn't able to track down those at high risk of exposure.

McMaster asks that if people are feeling sick, they stay away from university buildings and seek medical advice.

The Spectator has reached out to McMaster with questions about the case and is waiting to hear back.
