The government of Pakistan, an Islamic nation in which extramarital affairs and gay sex are illegal, has blocked five popular apps in its quest to purify the internet of the second largest Muslim-majority country.

Reuters reports that the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority today sent notices to the management of five apps, Tinder, Grindr, Tagged, Skout and SayHi, "keeping in view the negative effects of immoral/indecent content streaming."

The PTA seeks the removal of "dating services" and the ability to censor live streaming content, in accordance with local law, Reuters reports:

The companies did not respond to the notices within the stipulated time, the regulator added.

Tinder, Tagged, Skout and Grindr did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Reuters was unable to contact SayHi for comment.
